Callie, I'm keeping my Alaska place at least for now. (I've lived in Alaska for over 40 years, so not ready to make a clean break yet.). I LOVE Homer! Will be doing a road trip In Alaska before coming back to PA. I love gardening, so will be learning about growing things in PA. Of course lots of sewing, too!

hi!
doing some web wandering/reading today. one site i like for thier articles is Quilting Hub. never have gone thru thier whole list of articles due to time constraints ..too much work, too little time for fun stuff. anyway ...i just found an article about thread basing quilts ..pros & cons. i found some of it's ideas interesting ..thought i'd share.
are you heading into winter up there yet? friends just returned fr s dakota ..i encouraged them to head west via hwy 2 ..i love that area of the country. they did & agreed w me :)) i'm sooo looking forward to snow, we won't get like you do, but i need break from outdoor labors. and winter is when i finally get to pursue quilty fun! :))

i've been to minot north dakota. we traveled a lot following construction jobs. have friends visiting black hills right now & spoke w them on the phone yesterday & encouraged them to head west via minot area. i loved that area!
i tried to pin when i first started quilting. w & w/o this frame i use now. got a book by joe cunningham & gwen (can't think of her name right now) they showed basting w needle & thread, cross corner to corner then grid. so i tried that. now i just grid ..holds well, threads easy to cut away as i quilt (either by hand or on my domestic machine) ...i also had issues w pins getting snagged on things. and ...oh yeah! i have to lay down & take break now & again. i have advanced degenerative spinal disease. last place i lived was much mellower climate, no dust storms & my friend & i would set the frame up out in the yard. she's left handed, i'm right handed ..didn't take long for us to do large quilts!

Hi Callie, thanks for the warm welcome. I'm so looking forward to sharing with the group. I've been to Hilton many times, I have friends there. Nice people. I just joined the American Sewing Guild in my area. It's wonderful to spend time with others with a common interest.

that's another thought ..quilts take up more storage real estate than i have in my house. i do have a few vintage & antique quilts ..probably should part with them, let them go to someone who has room to display/enjoy. but i guess i'm still attached to the memories that go with their acquisition. you're military ..i'm construction & we've traveled the back roads of this country, wandering back & forth across the united states following husbands' job assignments. pic up stuff here & there in our wanderings. but i agree with you also about a legacy. i've sewn toys --dolls, doll clothes, quilts and more for my two grands since they were born. my son told me last christmas that regardless of what i make them now, they treasure it and are excited about whatever i show up with :)) ..of course he was raised the same way, playing with, wearing and wrapping up in my creations made just for him

hi callie ..yes! i know exactly what you mean ..i make quilts for people special to me and the quilts leave me & i never see them again. maybe it's just as well ..i know they're loved and appreciated, but i don't want to see them after years of laundering! lollol

i'll be watching, & hoping ..you continue to post pics of your work.

Had to chuckle at the annoying hubby part of your profile. Mine is concerned with my quilting obsession and is constantly scheming to separate me from my sewing machines... wants dinner, wants golf partner, wants company watching tv ( ok, l can do that while hand sewing binding, lol)

So nice to do such nice things for your community. I will get back with you when I get going on the free motion. I have to look back on your purple and cream. Have you joined any of the groups. You would enjoy the UFO group. We talk about anything and everything there. The ladies sometimes share good advice about quilting and we have a good time joking around at times and sometimes pray for one another. They are encouraging when you show your pics. Linda Koller just sent me all the patterns for the "Women of the BIble" quilt. And if they don't have it they can lead you to where to find almost anything. The free motion group is another interesting group and the 2017 Stash Busting group is great also. This sounds like an advertisement. lol!!

Oh! just one more thing! ha! Deanna Davis also teaches children, she calls them her "littles". She is in the UFO group.

That should be spiral squares on all the burgundy. And the only thing I can think of for the shaded strips is stitch in the ditch. Got any better ideas for that?

Hi Callie, I went back to MSQC to see how they quilted it. They used an all over pattern of large and small loops. That look like perfect circles. But I think I want to divide it up. Some of the white fabric on mine looks like arrows. I'd like to echo the shape of that. Then I am thinking of making squares in all the burgundy colors, but I always procrastinate when it comes to quilting. I enjoyed the sewing with the girls also. But it got to much for me so after 10 years I gave it up. But it was fun to see the girls getting the hang of their machines. We did have good times together and most of the girls are graduated now and still remember the good times we had and still have the things they made. So that makes it rewarding. Have fun with your quilting then come over and do mine. ha ha!!

Welcome to MQP, Callie! I enjoyed browsing your photos. I lived on a farm outside of Palermo off and on for over 12 years, so I know Minot well. There are many groups to join, lots of fun people, and support and info on just about anything you can imagine here!
