Inspiring Quilters, Stitch by Stitch
Well, I just couldn't help myself! Our LQS was having their annual Memorial Day weekend sale. 25% off everything in the store! I stocked up on batiks (which I always say I don't care for) because there isn't anything else I need right now; I already have a large stash (except for batiks). I figured if I worked with batiks more maybe I'd start liking them. Don't get me wrong; they're absolutely gorgeous! They're just kinda stiff to me and difficult to work with. I did buy some regular quilting cotton...outer space fabric for a "Quilts for Kids" quilt.
I also bought some Dream Green batting. I generally use Warm and Natural, but for the Alzheimer's quilts I make I like the Dream Green. I added some miscellaneous items for embellishing the AAQI quilts...buttons, felt flowers, variegated embroidery floss, etc.
Usually I avoid going to the shop during this sale because I'm in a tourist town and all holiday weekends are crazy! You're lucky to get a parking spot! And this year was no exception. For some reason I didn't care; I wanted out of the house.
I really had no business spending so much money...we're on a budget because hubby is in school full-time and only working part-time, but oh well...all the stuff I bought was for quilts to donate so I don't feel the least bit guilty! Well, I guess I didn't HAVE to have that yard of Chartreuse Fairy Frost! But it had my name on it!
OH...I also found out about a new quilting group in my area!!! We don't have a guild around here and I feel I've really been missing out, so this is especially exciting for me! A few quilters started a group for making quilts to donate to our local hospice facility. I'm so excited because the quilts I make to donate all have to be mailed and this is local...and quilting with real people! What a concept! I can't wait to call on Tuesday to get the details!!
