New Group Update

We have some ladies interested in the Civil War Group.  Not only will we tallk history, blocks, quilts but let me add that we will be sharing sites to buy Civil War Fabrics (fabrics in general) many times for less.  Alert each other to sales and kits.....and events.

Interest in a New Group?

Is there any interest in starting a civil war quilting group. Quilt history and period quiltblocks would be the focus.

What have been your experiences working with Pouncers.  It appears that it would make marking the quilt much easier but I wonder if the chalk-like texture might smear.

Have you discovered Marie Bostwick's Books?

I recently discovered a series of fiction books by Marie Bostwick. They are centered around a quilt shop in a small town in New England.  I couldn't put them down.  So far there are 4 of them.

What have your experiences using a "Pouncher" been?  It appears that it would make marking much easier but I wonder if the chalk-like powder would smear.  Is a special stencil needed?

Morning Glory Quilt Block

Finally, today, now that September is fading into history, my morning glory vine outside my kitchen window bloomed for the first time this summer. It’s been such a hot summer in Kansas that the vine just didn’t have the strength to bloom. Now that the weather has cooled down it’s covered with buds ready to burst—and my bet is we’ll have an early frost and I won’t get to enjoy its…

Fall is in the air!

Been spending a lot of time in the yard getting all of the new plants in the ground before winter.  DH did a LOT of work this summer hardscaping and now we're doing the fun stuff... picking up plants and making everything look pretty.  Not much time for sewing, quilting, or playing online, though. And I didn't spend any time with grandkids this weekend.  There's just never enough time to do everything I want to do. Does anyone else feel like that?

Buying fabric online and feeling guilty!

Why do I always feel a bit guilty when I order fabric from one of the big online sellers.  I just placed another order yesterday.  The total cost was less than 1/2 of what I would pay at Joann's and considerably less than the only remaining quilt shop in our area.

I always try to support local businesses as my travel agency is a local business... but cost wins out sometimes.  I generally get good quality fabric online, but have had a couple poor surprises when I didn't pay attention…

Been Busy~

I have finished a quilt top!!!! YAY! It's a Sampler Quilt I was making from a fun thing Jane at the Cherry Pit had going...I chose to do bright colors because they are so out of my comfort zone...I am really happy how this one turned out after all...I used black sashing between the blocks with corner stones of the scraps in the blocks...then I found this great fabric with a black background with splashes of the colors in the blocks all over...have a wild harlequin print for the…

Another Pioneer Story?

I tend not to write when I’m sad or overwhelmed, and I’ve been both recently— so I haven’t blogged, written on my book series, or even handwritten in my daily diary.

Lois, my mother-in-law went into hospice in July and died the last part of August. We had a memorial…

Free Motion Quilting

Hello my friends. It's been a long busy summer. I'm taking a free motion quilting class and I'm really enjoying it. It's not as scarey as I thought it would be. I have part 2 tomorrow. My goal is to get over my fear and get my tops quilted. There was no way I would do this on my own. Classes are the only way I could make myself even give it a try.  I'm making good progress and having a lot of fun too. What has your free motion quilting experiences been like? Do you love it, hate it, haven't…
