Toggle Started!

Yesterday I worked all day putting together a new quilt top for my son, Adam, who is almost-a-doctor of chiropractic.  I want to give him a quilt to celebrate his graduation, which we expected to be in December this year.  Well, he's a bit of a procrastinator (like his mother) and missed a deadline at the college, and now he has to stay for another term.  So, he will graduate in the Spring of 2013 instead - which is good, because I have a few more months to save up for a party for…

cats on quilts

I'm not posting this to offend cat lovers but I think you should be aware of your quilts collecting fine cathair. When I quilt other peoples baby quilts I go over it with a  sticky roller to remove lint and needless to say I can always tell when the person has a cat,it is filled with fine  cathair.I would not want to give this as a gift to a baby without it being washed when it comes back from the quilter.People are probably not aware of this so maybe you would consider this.

Thanks to all - glad you like it.  I tried for the first time to do some quilting using my walking foot, and put an extra layer of batting under the eagle and flag.  Doesn't show in photos, but he's sort of trapunto because of the extra batt.  It came out pretty well, for a first try.

Sunshine 16 quilting machine

New here and would like any input re. Sunshine 16 quilting machine  I saw and tried at AQS in GR, MI this

past weekend.  I was actually pretty impressed with the machine (how it stitched, very little vibration) and

just wondered if anybody had one.  It is unbelievably affordable, and  I would appreciate some feedback.

Thanks!  Happy Quilting!

Slumpity, slump, slump, slump.

I'm in a quilting slump, I don't want to finish this double wedding ring that I'd get paid for if I finished it, lol. I don't want to work on the awesome looking dragon/hurricane themed t shirt quilt that's at least half done and all laid out really, lol. I don't want to finish quilting the scrap quilt for my niece.. I actually don't want anything to do with my sewing room right now.. I went down there Monday for a bit, but I just couldn't get into it. I hate times like this.. what do the…

I have started my Asian fabric quilt. Have 15 quarters done and it is going well.  I was on a roll today, then got a request to make a quilt (top only) for a young lady who does handylady things for me. This week she did some plumbing. So glad we were introduced to her. Anyway, she brought a lap-size quilt that she and her husband just love. It is a modified Courthouse- steps pattern and made with a scrappy look in all medium tones. She asked if I'd make a king-size for her. She will have it…

"Romantic" Is Home!

Picked up my baby girl quilt today from my long-armer, Vicki.  It is BEAUTIFUL!  She said she found it romantic, so that is what I will call it!  Now if only one of the babies coming this fall would be a GIRL!  BTW - our 5th great-grandchild, Gabriel Anthony, was born 8/19/12 almost 7 weeks premature.  We are praying for him and his parents!

She did some meandering on the insides, crossed the charm pack squares, and put "feathers" around the outside.  I have some pretty bright…

Reindeer Games

Just finished this one, with fabric from my stash.  Sometimes it is just fun to pull out everything that sorta goes together, and see what happens.  The embroidery designs are from Embroidery Library, including Rudolph, with red nose.

Retirement , Marriage & Quilting

Some of my still-working friends have asked "how's  retirement effecting your life?" They're as apprehensive as I was . I totally enjoyed my business, it's all I talked of & was absorbed by. Now it's been over 3 yr., and they ask, "don't you miss it?" The answer is a resounding "No".I don't miss the working world, I've moved on. I did miss the comraderie of those I worked with, especially since I moved, but now we…

AQS Coming to Grand Rapids, MI

I am SO excited that AQS is going to be, literally, in my back yard (45 minutes away)!  I had a serious case of desire to go to Paducah this past spring, as my 93 year old aunt lives about 50 miles from there!  I was working, and I just didn't have the time or the money.  I didn't go.  THEN, it was announced they would be in GR in August!  (No, I haven't been to see my Aunt yet, either.)

I have my three-day pass, am registered for one class, and got an email that…

Baby Girl Quilt Coming Home!

Got news today that Baby Quilt #2 (?), which is all girly, is DONE and ready to be picked up from the long-armer!  I can't wait!  I used a Moda Dogwood charm pack on the top and a pretty pink fabric from that collection for the back.  Vicki (the long-armer) said she almost - almost - wanted to have a baby so she could wrap it in the quilt, so THAT makes me very excited to see it!  I should have it Tuesday of next week, and will post pictures pre-and-post binding, just because I am SO excited…

Trying to find a quilt shop in France.

Last weekend my daughters family were in a car crash in France. My grandson Joe was airlifted to hospital in Nantes with a seatbelt injury to his sternum. I flew out immediately from England to take care of Sammy 5 and to support the family, with my husband following later in his truck to bring back their belongings. I am writing this because I cannot praise enough the French hospital, the love and support that we have all received from the French people who have patiently understood the… Continue
