and the Embroidery begins!

A few weeks since I last blogged and so much has happened.  In the middle of my well laid Christmas quilt plans, a family crisis arose and had to be dealt with.  My sister-in-law Barbie and her husband George were in urgent need of assistance as they moved out of their little house in Galesburg, Illinois - 640 miles away - and the Memorial Day weekend seemed the time to go to…

Memorial Weekend Sleepover at Grandma's

It definitely wasn't a quilting weekend....but just as fun!  3 of my granddaughters descended on Grandpa and I for 2 nights!  Fairy houses, lots of cooking..chocolate chip cookies, bread, muffins, smoothies and lots of time for playing with each other!  They are 3-6 and their conversations are amazing!  While we were making the fairy houses I learned a lot about the world of fairies!  I got caught up on all the fairy names and occupations!  We had to watch the latest Tinker Bell movie before…

Quilt pattern for cancer survivor ribbons

I am looking for a quilt pattern for the cancer ribbon that is not paper pieced.  I have found one for the pink ribbon that is for breast cancer and other colors representing the various types of cancer, but they are all paper pieced.  I would like to make a quilt for our Relay for Life team to raffle off for next year.  Any advice would be appreciated.

My Personal UFO Challenge for Memorial Weekend

Lots of UFO's.  I've joined the UFO group and plan on starting the two different challenges in June.  However, I'm going to make a personal challenge just for this weekend.  I'm going to set a goal of 4 UFO's to have completed by the end of Monday!  I've already got a start on one. Starting easy.  I chose a wall hanging that's one of 8 projects - ranging from queen to wall hanging size - to put the binding on.  Tomorrow it'll be to have the children's quilt for Quilts For Kids quilted,…

I'm back!

and ready to release some artistic frustration!  I gave my notice at work last week, so I will soon be "funemployed" for a while as I hunt for a job that better fits my career goals.  I'm hoping to get back into quilting during this time!  A cousin and a few close friends are pregnant, so I have a few baby quilts to whip up, and my sister is getting married next summer, so I want to get to work on a wedding quilt. I cracked open a box of fabric last night and started pressing.  I'm going to…

Yes, yes, and yes! 15 quilt tops done 12 days ahead of schedule

Last night about 8 PM I finished the 15th quilt top, a quick and easy little number in flannel.  I stood still for just a few minutes to savor it before pouring myself a drink and thinking, "Okay, so what is next?"  Here are pictures of the last three quilt tops made since my last post:…

Merci, me....and her mom

I just got back from a wonderful visit with my grandchildren in Georgia. They had an end of the year school picnic where I was the face was really fun and I did a fabulous job if I do say so myself. Now seeing them is always a joy but this trip there was an added surprise from my aunt I haven't seen in years. Aunt Merci (her 1st hubby was Filipino and could not say Marcy so she had her name changed to the way he said it)..anyway, Aunt Merci had to put her mother in a nursing…

Gardening Pest

So yesterday, we get home from church only to find two more mounds where the moles came back up after the mowed the lawn the day before. We have these new gas bombs that you thrown down the hole and cover up.  We will see if they worked.  Deer decided to start chewing on my cauliflower and broccoli plants so up went the black net horse fence around my raised garden.  planted carrots and beans yesterday.  Peas are up 6 inches now.  So excited the weather seems to be so much more cooperative…

My grandma taught me how to make them. We always did needle points and would put the pieces together to make quilts. I wish I could have saved more of the ones she made me but of course they were always my favorite so they have long since been retired.

Volunteer at your local quilt show

Recently a group of us put on the thirteenth annual quilt show here in Pendleton. The show was a success and the quilts were the stars of the show of course. We meet throughout the year and plan the show. Talking about something is one matter...words can with cause action or take the place of getting the job done. When it is time to set it up, sort it out, hang the quilts and open the door, the work can give an appreciation of each other's efforts, skills and sense of teamwork. A deeper… Continue

Wedding Count Down!!! 25 days to go!!

I sure wish life would slow down a bit.  I always think after this it will slow down.  After the next event it will slow down and so on.  Our three daughters have graduated, two are married with two children and we have 25 days until we "marry off" the third one!!  Since she got engaged, we signed papers on a new house, moved in slowly over 6-8 weeks allowing me to clean and paint while it was empty.  The final…

Allow cat to close mouth and swallow.

2. Retrieve pill from floor and cat from behind sofa.

Cradle cat in left arm and repeat process.

3. Retrieve cat from bedroom, and throw soggy pill away.

4. Take new pill from foil wrap, cradle cat in left arm,…

Quilt Show

We went to the quilt show in Archibald, Ohio this weekend.   There are some beautiful quilts out there in quilt land.  There were a lot more hand quilted ones this year then I have seen for awhile.  I wonder if that art is making a come back.   Did any of you have any quilts in the show??

Machine Service shop going well

The shop is progressing well, and I have now started to include selling parts in my sewing machine service adventure. I also placed an ad in the yellow pages. I know to get this completely off the ground will take some time, but it's kind of scary too. If nothing else I'll just keep refurbishing old machines and selling them. Either way, I'm having fun at my 'job' for a change.

Quilts and Granddaughters

I have started a quilt for my second oldest granddaughter. She graduates from High School in a few weeks and has been accepted at UT (Knoxville). Her older sister (by 14 months) is just finishing her freshman year at the University of Alabama.(Roll Tide - LOL) Anyway, I made the older one a quilt for her dorm room and now have started one for the UT student to be.  I'm making this very colorful, and of course it will have some TN orange in it. lolol.  A local quilt shop owner (just went out…
