Can't do what I want...yet anyway

Ever since I got back from Lancaster PA (AQS Show) a few weeks ago, I have been itching to try some techniques from two books I bought there.

The first book is Cotton Theory by Betty Cotton. Using this technique you end up making 2 quilts (reversible) and quilt one block at a time.  Looks complex but is supposed to be easy. It certainly looked that way at the demo.

The second book is Friendship Strips and Scraps by Edyta Sitar. Some of the patterns here combine appliqué and…

New whole cloth design

I'm working on the third whole cloth wall hanging, in a series of four. I've been trying to document some of the steps as I work on it. Since this is a series I'm doing, each of the quilts will have some of the same design elements. I start out by taping large pieces of paper together the size of the finished quilt for the new design. I set this aside. Next I tape the original paper design from the first wall hanging to the table. I then tape the blank paper, that I had taped together, on top… Continue

Help! Can I personalize My Place after AQS updated the site?

Does anyone know if we can personalize our page the way it was before the site was updated? I'm afraid to click on the reset button on my page appearance tab. Will that go back to the original way it was set up or the way I had personalized it? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Finished design for whole cloth wall hanging

I just finished the design for my next whole cloth wall hanging. This will be the third of four in a series: Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter. I finished marking the design on the fabric and am working on editing the photographs of some of the steps that I took in the process of designing and marking the top.  I hope to have a few pictures to post this weekend. Have a good evening.

Lancaster winners

I have sure enjoyed looking at the pictures of the Lancaster quilts.  Has anyone w/AQS realized though that when you click on Diane Johnson's name it shows her living in Colorado Springs, CO instead of Pahrump NV?  The man who won 2nd place lives in Colorado Springs so apparently someone just inadvertently put his town next to her name.

Janet Espeleta's comment

Hi Janet,  You are right those quilts are not for everyone.  I had purchased my new Pfaff at the time and in the store she had a book that was the Colour Purple using my new Pfaff.  I thought it would be a great tool for learning my new machine.  It was.  Then when I brought it for show and tell the people went nuts over it.  To make a long story short I did enter it in Paducah and it was accepted.  There wasn't alot of quilting in it.  I think if there were more maybe I would have won!  Who… Continue

Machine Embroidery Quilting

I had a lot of fun making "Hop to it" pictures are posted on my profile.  The inspiration for the colours in this quilt came from the sashing fabric.  The fabric is brown with a small soft turquoise geometic in it.  I used the embroidery background to correspond with the sashing fabric.  I then used a brown/black and light brown stripe for the border which I mitered matching the corners 99% perfect.  I then echo quilted around the designs getting progressively looser as I moved around the…

I'm not sure if this is the place to ask, but it looks like my sis in law and I will be going to Paducah next month.  But the big question is, can we find accommodations this late that do not cost an arm and a leg??  Or that are too far away?  Any input is appreciated.

Is it really Spring??

Good morning from Maine,

Is it really Spring? I suppose it is, somewhere. We could finally see our driveway and our front yard after most of the snow melted from this winter. THAT didn't last long. Last night we had about 5-6 inches of snow fall, and we're supposed to get another 1-3 inches today. Here are some pictures that I took earlier this morning (about 7:00 am). Have a great day.…

The Gang has Returned!

The once quiet office is now bustling with activity since the Lancaster crew has returned. They are tired, but it is a good tired. I’ve already heard stories about how nice the Lancaster area is to visit and how they enjoyed being at the Lancaster County Convention Center. Great stories about the quilters they met and helped at the show, the funny things that happened and lots more.

But it’s not all fun and games as we start right in on the Paducah show. All the last minute things…

Bat cancels book signing

There was such a crazy happening at the introduction to my new book "Wonderful 1 Fabric Curves" at the Capital City Quilt Guild in Lansing, MI.  The cover quilt, made by Jan Gagliano, and "Medallion Daisies" were just shown when a bat flew into the building and 150 quilters had to evacuate  SSSSSSSOOOOOOOO the presale book signing was postponed.  What an omen to crazy fun times coming.

Choosing borders for hawaiian block

I've spent today trying to decide what border to put on my blue Hawaiian block. One option was to put a border on all four sides and flip the design to fit border. When I had this design up there I thought it might be cool to only have a border on top and the left side, so I drew another design. I pinned this design onto my design wall around the block.… Continue
