I'm a mother of 3 grown children. I belong to a quilters guild and enjoying every moment of it. I love to sew and paper piece. I recently got a Featherweight Singer machine and love it. I live in the mountains of Pennsylvania. I'm Penna. Dutch. My Husband and I also have an on-line business making hunting accessories for hunters. We specialize in Turkey Gear and Gun Socks for Rifles and Shot Guns.
Good morning Annette. You are right, most people do not understand the work involved and aren't willing to pay for the work. I made a few quilts that have sold, but usually the quilts I make are given away through my quilting group, Quilts from Caring Hands here in Oregon.
I have never been to a quilt guild...I'm in a small town and there aren't any; which is why I joined My Quilt Place. I'm tired of being a lone quilter! I'd love to take a class someday as well.
My mom doesn't sew or quilt...I'm the only quilter in my family (which means everyone had to have a quilt!). At least they appreciate the work that goes into them!
I have wanted a featherweight for years. I want a refurbished one that's painted metallic purple! I have a White from the 40's that I love because the stitches are perfect. But for the quilting I use my Baby Lock Quilter's Choice Professional. I love that machine!
Right now I'm working on a quilt of my own design; I design most of my quilts now because I that way I don't ever have to buy fabric specifically for a quilt. I design around my stash! The colors of my new one are various shades of pinks, purples, yellows and greens. Looks good on paper so we shall see!
Hi Annette! I've been here for a few weeks now and I'm really enjoying getting to know other quilters. I live in a small Oregon town and there isn't a guild for miles. I'd love to belong to a guild...I don't have any quilting buddies either, so I thought I'd come here and not feel so much like a lone quilter!
There are several groups here to join...there's one for hand quilters. I belong to machine quilters, piecing, traditional quilts and scrappy quilts. I also started a group for newbies because I had so much help from internet friends that I thought a newbie group would be nice. Plus, I've only been quilting for 5 years and have a lot to learn as well. I enjoy making quilts for gifts, to donate and to sell.
