Ha ha ha, Kris!

We're in mid January, and 2 of our members have been going full steam ahead! Way to go Linda and Elizabeth! Then at least 2 of you are honoring first of year clean/ declutter projects, which l believe is necessary to make room for the new quilts to be made this year, lol. Family needs must come first. But l do want to see that the sewing room/ area is also organized while you're on a roll. More on that next week :-))

All the trims from the flying geese units and a few extra 1-1/2" squares. If anyone wants them, send me a pm. Otherwise, they will be thrown away.

I've got it figured out, Riana. Will surprise you all later. Taking a day or two off as the weather is getting to me with migraine and low back pain. Had to do monthly grocery shopping today and it's raining...always wipes me out. Tomorrow I need to do Indy's freezer meals before the veggies spoil. He will be glued to my feet waiting for me to drop something. LOL It's one of his favorite things except when I'm cutting up chicken. LOL He watches that kitchen counter to make sure nothing falls off!

Kris, it's be nice to know what day grandbaby will be born...at least you can plan the day/ week accordingly. Congratulations!

Linda, l thought maybe the camera wasn't showing the fabrics properly. I agree the very dark borders are a bit too strong, and can off balance the look...especially for a pansey ( think spring) look.

Elizabeth...you're a fan of Death in Paradise too? :-)) l'll be doing handsewing of binding.

Elizabeth, take your time. I'll be at the design wall stage for a day or two. I'm not happy with the borders on some of the blocks. I need to preview some fabrics to replace the black/green that I don't like.

Linda, when I realized you were at the design wall stage with your quilt, I worked extra long on my blocks yesterday.  But today, I am going to sandwich my Ducks Quilt downstairs so that I have something in progress for Beth's Stashbusting Challenge for 2020.  Today is a "Snow Day" and tonight there is a 2 hour special Dr. Blake Mysteries with Death in Paradise following.  Lots of time to blanket stitch this evening.

Who signed up for Beth's challenge?

Riana, I want to replace the black/green borders, not add to. The one block has a lighter green border than the rest. I don't have any more of the black/green fabric. I want to leave the 2 blocks with the rose borders and change the borders on the other blocks.

Pack, clean, pack, clean, pack, clean.......Somehow there is no sewing in there.  Sigh.  But the end is in sight - I think.  However, daughter is being induced on the 24th and I'll be there more than here for a couple weeks.

Melanie, how nice you'll have your grandson there. He can help with heavy lifting of some of those boxes, lol. You in return can offer him a nice homecooked meal. Win/ win. Glad you got in some sewing too.

Linda, the photo goes upright when you " select" it for closer view. Won't putting narrow borders on just black & green ones make them too large to fit next to the others? What if you put rose strips on the black edged ones, green on those ending in pink, and pink along the ones finished in green? You could even add blue corner blocks to all of them for a little spice!

Picture went sideways...left side is top.

Now that I have it on the design wall, I'm thinking I need to change to narrow borders on the blocks that are black/green. I don't have enough of the rose color. I do have another green, 3 other rose colors, or the blue I could use. The setting triangles are a muted green with pink rose print. Suggestions?

Comment by Linda Koller on January 15, 2020 at 6:54pm

No Melanie, Elizabeth and I are not in competition. We just seem to be working at the same pace. I am, however, following a pattern and just completed my last block. I did get most  of it up on the design wall later this afternoon. I'm trying to figure out some of the setting triangles. The directions just said look at the photo.

Hi Melanie,  Thank you.  It was a coincidence that Linda and I started our PhD projects on Jan. 1 and we have been steadily working on each block in our quilts.  She has 12 blocks but I don't really have a firm pattern to follow.  I bought 15 blocks at the QOV garage sale several years ago and I don't have the setting package or each of the packages.  When I get all 15 blocks done I'll lay them out and see what I have.  I have been enjoying  doing the hand blanket stitch on all the fused applique pieces. It takes ages but I don't seem to mind.

Linda and I are not in competition as Riana keeps reminding me but I think she has been spurring me on by posting each of her blocks as she finishes them.

Catching up on my reading here today.  Only scratched the surface!

Zoe - you and I are on the same wave length!  I've been decluttering in preparation for my grandson to move in for a while.  His parents moved quite a ways away and he is kind of lost here.  I am cleaning out a bedroom full of JUNK!  Trying to be ruthless in the process, but it is hard to realize that I'm a hoarder (GASP)!.  My dh is helping and really pushing me to get rid of stuff, which is a two-edged sword - getting stuff done, but sometimes we're punchy.   I hope your mom is doing ok and not too stressed with all the work going on.  It's OK not to sew for a while.

Linda - that block #12 is beautiful.  I will have to look for the other 11 - or maybe wait for the design wall pix.

Elizabeth - your colors are nice, too!  And you are making great progress.  I guess you and Linda are doing a quilt along?

I guess I better look at my PHD list.  I took the purple quilt and backing to sewing group on Monday - forgot to bring the pins so it didn't get pinned for quilting.  Next Monday.  I did work on a smaller quilt for a gentleman in our church that probably should have been on the PHD list - it was a baby quilt kit in blue and brown shirting that I bought about 5 years ago.  Have now pieced all HST and working on strips for the squares.  I'll post pix separately.

Well, gotta get back to the decluttering.  Take care all!
