Event Description

This class teaches how to crochet an oblong shawl (with rounded ends) using crochet-in-the-round with double crochet stitches.  Other stitches or stitch patterns can be used, after learning the basic methods to make this oblong shawl.

If students wish, they can make a narrower scarf or a shorter placemat (or even a small "mug rug") using this same method.  If students want to use multiple yarns (or colors) to create stripes, then I will teach them how to change yarns between rounds.

Students need to have basic crochet skills prior to this class, such as knowing the chain stitch and the double crochet stitch.  You will also learn the slip stitch.  This project is suitable for those who want to refresh or renew or improve their crochet skills.

Supplies needed:  Yarn in 1 or more colors (your choice, recommend 24-40 oz. for a shawl), crochet hooks (your choice, suitable size for your yarn), 4 stitch markers (ring must  have an opening or split, so it can go onto the yarn), scissors, 6 ft. tape measure, paper & pen for notes.

Cost: $25.00 for 3-hr class session per student, in small groups (no credit cards accepted). Private lessons are available for an additional fee.

This class has 2 students preregistered. Spaces are still available for additional students.

I am offering classes on either Quilting or Needle Tatting or Crochet at both Hobby Lobby stores in Knoxville, TN. I am teaching sessions on Monday mornings, all day Tuesdays, or Friday afternoon/evenings, and many Saturdays. Students can request special sessions at other times if a classroom is available.

The class taught on each date will be determined by what students request when they pre-register with me. Students must preregister in advance (2 days preferred) to select the class topic & date/time.

A variety of class options are available, teaching a range of skills, and most are 3 hour classes. See the listing of quilting, needle tatting, & crochet classes on my page at myquiltplace.com/profile/MonicaSchmidt.

Arrive up to 15 minutes early for each class, to allow time to set up (especially for quilting classes using a sewing machine) & make your payment.

Supply list will be e-mailed to students (from me) after they preregister. Please allow enough time to receive your supply list & purchase all the supplies prior to class.

Kindly support Hobby Lobby when you purchase class supplies, so that the classroom space remains available. Hobby Lobby has a good selection of needles for tatting, crochet hooks, cotton & perle cotton threads for tatting or fine crochet, yarns, 100% cotton fabrics (including Kona solids), quilt batting, and basic quilting & sewing supplies.

Class sessions will not be held unless a minimum # of students preregister. I will call you directly if a class has to be cancelled.

Please do not come to the store for a class session unless you have registered with me in advance. I do not come to the store unless students have pre-registered. I only print class handouts for those who have pre-registered.

The store does not provide sewing machines and does not handle any registration details for the instructors.
